An existing square serving mainly as a parking lot and an hardly accessible urban park are reconsidered as very connected entities and central public spaces of the small Sicilian town of Mussomeli. The square gets populated by a grid of poles that are designed to host lighting and a textile roof to create shadow and protection for the weekly market. The rest of the space is mostly de-sealed and planted in order to mitigate the heat island and to create continuity with the green park. To make the most out of the proximity of these two fundamental places, a monumental staircase (secretly also a water tank) becomes the most direct connection. The new entrance is a belvedere on the whole valley and through a new path connects to the existing loop. Some punctual interventions introduce new program for an activation of the restored low maintenance green areas.
